The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) operates a system whereby persons with the necessary technical qualifications and professional experience may be accredited to assign radio frequencies. Radspec personnel were one of the first to receive this accreditation.
The ACMA designate the necessary policy, procedures and band plans to be adopted during the assignment process. Radspec frequency assignment staff were previously employed by ACMA and are conversant with the current requirements and, in most cases, the history which evolved into the current policy.
The common frequency assignment categories completed by Radspec on a daily basis include the following:
- Land Mobile System
- Ambulatory System
- Fixed Point to Point
- Fixed Point to Multi-Point
- Paging System
- Aeronautical Assigned
- CB Repeater
Radspec maintains an up to date copy of the ACMA RADCOM database. The RADCOM data is processed using specially developed commercial packages, in-house tools and GIS software. Radspec is also fully equipped for electronic lodgement of frequency assignments directly into the ACMA database. This process provides speedy frequency registration, minimizing delays and improving efficiency.
Additional information regarding the commonly used ACMA frequency band plans is available.
